Biografía
Guillermo del Toro Gómez, nacido el 9 de octubre de 1964, es un cineasta, autor y artista mexicano. Su obra se ha caracterizado por una fuerte conexión con los cuentos de hadas, el goticismo y el terror, combinando a menudo estos géneros para infundir belleza visual o poética en lo grotesco. Ha tenido una fascinación de toda la vida por los monstruos, que considera símbolos de gran poder. Es conocido por ser pionero de la fantasía oscura en la industria cinematográfica y por el uso de imaginería insectoide y religiosa, sus temas relacionados con el catolicismo, la celebración de la imperfección, los motivos del inframundo, los efectos especiales prácticos y la iluminación dominante en tonos ámbar. A lo largo de su carrera, del Toro ha alternado entre películas en español —como Cronos (1993), El espinazo del diablo (2001) y El laberinto del fauno (2006)— y películas en inglés, como Mimic (1997), Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004) y su secuela Hellboy II: El ejército dorado (2008), Pacific Rim (2013), La cumbre escarlata (2015), La forma del agua (2017), El callejón de las almas perdidas (2021) y Pinocho de Guillermo del Toro (2022). Como productor o guionista, trabajó en películas como El orfanato (2007), No tengas miedo a la oscuridad (2010), la serie cinematográfica El hobbit (2012–2014), Mamá (2013), El libro de la vida (2014), Pacific Rim: Insurrección (2018), Historias de miedo para contar en la oscuridad (2019) y Las brujas (2020). En 2022, creó la serie antológica de terror de Netflix El gabinete de curiosidades de Guillermo del Toro, que presenta una colección de historias clásicas de terror. Junto con Chuck Hogan, coescribió la trilogía de novelas The Strain (2009–2011), que posteriormente fue adaptada a una serie de cómics (2011–2015) y a una serie de televisión de acción real (2014–2017). Con DreamWorks Animation y Netflix, creó la franquicia animada Tales of Arcadia, que incluye las series Trollhunters (2016–2018), 3Below (2018–2019) y Wizards (2020), así como la película secuela Trollhunters: El despertar de los titanes (2021). Del Toro es amigo cercano de otros cineastas mexicanos como Alfonso Cuarón y Alejandro G. Iñárritu, conocidos colectivamente como «Los tres amigos del cine mexicano». Ha recibido numerosos premios, incluidos tres premios Óscar, tres premios BAFTA, dos Globos de Oro, un premio Emmy diurno y un León de Oro. Fue incluido en la lista de las 100 personas más influyentes del mundo de la revista Time en 2018, y recibió una estrella en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood en 2019.
