Director de cine británico nacido en Londres. Hijo de Herbert Asquith, Conde de Oxford y primer ministro británico entre 1908 y 1916, desde muy joven se interesó por el cine, ambiente que conoció de primera mano cuando su padre, tras finalizar sus estudios en Oxford, le envió a Hollywood para que conociera de cerca la industria cinematográfica.
